Energy Grants for Business

Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA)
The Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) is a tax incentive which aims to encourage companies to invest in energy saving technology.

The ACA is based on the existing Capital Allowances tax structure (also referred to as Wear and Tear Allowance) for plant and machinery and it only applicable to eligible energy efficient equipment.

Business can claim tax back on the following:

  • Motors and Drives
  • Lighting
  • Building Energy Management Systems
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • Heating and Electricity Provision
  • Process and Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) Control Systems
  • Electric and Alternative Fuel Vehicles

The ACA benefits companies in year one by:

  • Reducing your tax bill
  • Increasing your cash flow
  • Reducing your energy costs

The ACA is available to companies that operate and pay corporation tax in Ireland.

Renewable Heat Deployment Programme
Grants are available to help business, public and community premises fund the cost of switching to renewable heating systems. Financial support of up to 30% will be provided to install wood chip or pellet boilers, solar hot water heating systems and heat pumps. Applicants must carry out a feasibility or design study when applying for the grant and meet the technical criteria laid out by the SEI.

Combined Heat and Power Deployment Programme
Combined heat and power (CHP) systems utilise the heat generated from electricity, which is often wasted. 40% funding is available for the cost of qualifying feasibility studies and 30% investment grant support for small-scale fossil-fired CHP projects in industrial, commercial, service and public sectors.

Microgeneration
To encourage the on-site generation of electricity in homes and farms across Ireland Green Party Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has introduced a guaranteed price of 19 cent per kilowatt hour of electricity produced. This competitive feed-in tariff will apply to the first 4,000 micro-generation installations countrywide over the next three years. Eligible installations include small scale wind, photovoltaic, hydro and combined heat and power.

Feasibility Studies
Grants are available of up to 40% for a feasibility study of your building to determine the best practice on energy consumption and the implementation of renewable energies. The feasibility study is a detailed report on reducing your heating costs and lowering your carbon emissions.
